How can I choose the right attorney?
You have the right to hire the attorney of your choice. If you cannot afford an attorney the court will appoint one for you, generally a public defender or an attorney who has been approved by the court to handle court appointed matters. Who you decide to hire is highly personal and choice you should make wisely. A few questions you may ask yourself are:
- Do I feel comfortable with this attorney?
- Does this attorney appear to be knowledgeable in the areas of law that concern me?
- Does this attorney make himself or herself available to me either by phone or in person?
- Does this attorney keep me informed of the status of my case?
